About the trip
Hey everyone!
We've requested a release from Hydro Tas to run the Mersey White Water course for us over the Easter weekend. Unfortunately they can't confirm until a few days beforehand so we just have to plan and hope we'll get it!
The plan is:
Thursday- Hydro will confirm/deny our request and I'll send you all an email to let you know if the trip is going ahead!
Friday 3rd April - meet at the sheds 3pm leave Hobart and DRIVE (4hrs) up to the mersey, set up camp.
Saturday 4th April - Rafting on the mersey!!
Sunday 5th April - Rafting on the mersey until ~3pm, pack up, then head back to Hobart.
What to expect:
We will be camping at Berlin Wall (-41.705037, 146.220901) for 2 nights so you will need to bring your own camping gear, ALL of your own food and cooking equipment. It can get very cold up there so be sure to bring lots of warm clothes! There are no facilities except a toilet 800m walk from campsite. No phone connection. The rafting we will be doing is on the Mersey River- we will be doing laps of a 4km long section of the river. Check out this website if you want more deets https://wikiriver.com/tasmania/wildwaterrace-course.
What to bring for on river:
Runners/volleys/shoes to wear on river and get wet
Bathers
Thermals for under wetsuit on cold days
Woollen socks/ wetsuit socks if you have them to keep your feet warm on river!
Wetsuit gloves if you have them
What to bring for off river:
Camping gear- tent/sleeping bag/mat
Head torch
Food/cooking gear
Warm clothes/socks/shoes/beanie
Snacks
Raincoat
As you all know fuel has gone crazy expensive in the last couple of weeks and probably isn't coming down anytime soon. We will calculate and split the cost of fuel at the end of the trip to pay drivers based on what fuel costs are on the day (expect around $50?). If you are happy to drive please let us know in the comments of the sign up sheet! We need you!
The rafting sheds where we start and finish the trip are at 40 Olinda Grove (-42.912862, 147.314381)
