Get excited for the 2024 Guides course!

Are you interested in learning to guide a raft with the Uni Rafting Club? This course is aimed at newer members of the club teaching the skills needed to plan and run a trip, and safely guide a raft. This trip is open to club members who have been on a least one trip previously (if you haven't rafted before get yourself on a trip over late July and early August). 

The course will be spread over 3 sessions: 

August 15th 6-9:30pm  ROPE SKILLS SESSION. This will cover tying knots, using pulleys and other on river safety gear. 

Held at the Rafting Sheds, 131 Olinda Grove, Mount Nelson.

August 20th 6-9:30pm THEORY NIGHT. This session will cover Hydrology (how to read water...), and how to plan and run a trip. 

Held at the TUSA board room on the Sandy Bay Campus, Churchil Avenue, Sandy Bay.

August 23rd-25th WEEKEND ON RIVER. 

A weekend away learning to guide a raft from our Senior Guides. Meeting at the Sheds at 5:30pm on Friday the 23rd we will carpool to the river returning late on Sunday. We hope to spend the weekend rafting on the Mersey river staying at Arm River Camp (dorm accomodation) though this is subject to rainfall/dam releases given by Hydro Tasmania. If we are unable to raft the Mersey another river we be selected and we will be camping rather then staying in accomodation. This will be confirmed closer to the date. 

Cost: 

$40 to cover the cost of accomodation, a communal dinner and the fuel costs of senior guides and club volunteers who are giving their time to teach you. We will carpool to the river, please contribute fuel costs to your driver in addition to the $40 paid to the club.
