About the trip

Welcome to the first Intro Trip of 2022!

We will meet at the sheds at 8.00 am on Saturday.

Being an introductory trip all new and old members are welcome, regardless of experience level. We are likely going to paddle the Picton, Weld or Derwent for plenty of beginner friendly fun that is close to Hobart.

There will be two intro rafting trips plus more later in the year, so don't worry if you can't make this one!

We will stop at a bakery on the way to the river where you can get coffee or brekkie. Being an Intro Trip, we will also supply a BBQ and some drinks after rafting. We will carpool to the river, so please let us know on sign up if you have a car.

What do I need?

Everyone on the trip needs to be a member of the club and sign up on the website. You can become a member here (https://rafting.org.au/join/) or if needed we can sort it on the day (bring cash or be prepared for a bank transfer through your phone etc.). Just a reminder, yearly membership costs $15 for a student, plus $40 "first trip fee", if it is your first ever trip with the club. This covers petrol costs and food on the day, plus ongoing gear maintenance for the club.

Wetsuit, Helmet, etc are provided by the club. You will need to bring closed shoes, that you are happy to get wet and might want a layer for warmth under your wetsuit (No cotton!, thermals are a great layer).

Don't forget your towel and dry change of cloths/shoes!

Glasses are easy to loose so we recommend to use contact lenses where possible.

Here's a more detailed list of what to bring: https://jamesbarnes.id.au/articles/what-to-bring-on-your-first-rafting-trip/

Hopefully we will have nice weather but I would recommend a layer of polyester or wool thermals for underneath your wetsuit. Neoprene socks/watershoes are a great idea, too. If you don't have any of these, let us know on the day and we will give you extra layers of wetsuit to keep you warm!

How do I get to the sheds?

The rafting sheds are at 131 Olinda Grove, Mt. Nelson - https://maps.app.goo.gl/nAhdU1KbfTAVD13S6

It's a 20-30 min walk from Uni if you feel keen for a walk in the morning, but we are also happy to pick you up at TUU or Uni Accomodations. If you have any concerns about getting to the sheds in the morning, don't hesitate to contact me!
